Q. Do you allow sites to advertise for money, on their web
site?
A. Yes
Q. Do you allow overselling?
A. No!
If it sounds too good
too be true it usually is! All hosts have the same basic
limitations when it comes to server resources and specs. There
is no magic server that has a never ending supply of RAM and
CPU. If a host ever claims to give unlimited space or bandwidth
DO NOT JOIN THEM. The thing to remember is that the
average web site uses about 50 Megs space and less then 1 gig
bandwidth a month. So what hosting companies do is they lie!
They make up scam plans with tons of space and bandwidth for
around $8 bucks a month. It's a numbers game... Only one or two
of every 100 people that signup on the plan are going to use all
the bandwidth advertised. So what do they do? They usually
terminate the sites that use it saying "your site is using too
many resources." They aren't lying about the resource usage.
It's the truth! Most people don't realize that bandwidth and
space used have nothing to do with the server resources being
used. Resource usage has to do with the amount of CPU and RAM a
site uses. If a site uses a lot of bandwidth they aren't kicked
for using their bandwidth they are kicked for using up most of
the servers CPU and RAM. Another thing to remember is that the
cheaper the plan is, and the more space/bandwidth included - the
more sites per server the host will have to pack in, to make
their money back, even exceeding available size and bandwidth.
This is overselling. We do NOT allow overselling! So the lesson here is don't shop for a host
based on their plans only! Ask if they allow overselling! If yes
- Run! Sure sign of overselling - if GBs of space is
offered for couple of bucks a month

Server1: ns1.selectfix.com
Server2: ns2.selectfix.com
Please read your welcome e-mail. If you have lost your welcome
email you can email us, requesting your DNS.
To set DNS you should have access to the Control panel, provided

FTP
Q. Where can I download a free FTP?
A. We recommend downloading:
As General Software download site
http://download.com
(Core FTP Lite, or WS FTP)
An FTP client for Windows is available at
http://www.ipswitch.com
or
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net
An FTP client for Macintosh is available at
http://www.stairways.com/anarchie/
Upload
your files to 'public_html' directory using ftp settings:
Address: ftp://user@yourdomain.ext
Pasword: your password
ftp mode: passive
Depending on your ftp client, the settings can be also:
Host: ftp.yourdomain.ext
Port: 21
Name: user ID
Password: your password
If you use FrontPage to publish your website to our server, then
DO NOT use an FTP program to upload, edit or
delete your files. Using FrontPage to upload files and,
after that, using FTP - you will corrupt the FrontPage
extensions on your account. You will need to uninstall and
install them again, in order to use FrontPage uploading tool.
Please upload your files ONE by ONE. Is better, first to create
web site structure, folders, etc. manually, when upload each
file to the existent folder.
Q. It's not letting me upload my files what's wrong?
A. Make sure you are uploading to the right web directory which
is the public_html folder
The main
recommendation is to transfer files ONE by ONE!
Sometimes the
connection is loosed by the Client FTP because of a number of
files and directories to be uploaded and site structure is not
established yet. Some FTP clients allow you to increase dead
time waiting period, some of them not. It may appear first
time, then you upload a lot of files. After that, during normal
maintenance, refresh site etc, as site structure is already
established, the effect disappear.
Randomly, first time users are experiencing problems with
FileZilla FTP. To fix this problem, try:
- Clicking on Edit, then select Settings. Click on Firewall
Settings, which is found underneath Connection in the left hand
window. In the Firewall settings window (right side), click the
Passive Mode checkbox to turn it on if it is currently off. If
it is on, click the same checkbox to turn it off. If you connect
to our server and get disconnected quickly, this is the solution
Q. Why doesn't my ftp password change when I
change my Cpanel password?
A. Please allow 24 hours for your FTP password to sync with your
Cpanel password

to purchase my own SSL what do I need to know?
A. Our servers are Apache + Mod SSL. You will require
assistance from us to install it and there will be a $30.00
installation fee. To work properly SSL requires a distinct IP.
It cost $2.5 CAD/month.
Q. How do I
transfer a SSL?
A. Every place
that sells SSL's has a different transfer procedure. You will
need to ask the
supplier you
purchased it from
Subdomains
Q.
READ THIS BEFORE SETTING UP A SUBDOMAIN!
A. To create a sub domain cPanel asks for
the name you wish to use. MAKE SURE the Subdomain name you give
it doesn't have a folder already named that name. If it does the
sub will not work. Example... I want to create the Subdomain
test.mydomain.com so my Sub name is going to be TEST. If I
already have a folder in my ftp named TEST I need to delete it
or rename it to something different before I create the subdomain with the
TEST name from cPanel
Q. What is a subdomain?
A. www.domain.com
is a domain name. A subdomain is anything that replaces the www
in a domain name: forum.aol.com is a
subdomain. www.forum.aol.com is not a subdomain
Addon Domains
Q. What is an addon domain?
A. An addon domain is a fully functional domain that will work
out of a folder in your main sites ftp
Q.
Read this before setting up an Addon
Domain!
You cannot create
an Addon domain if your DNS hasn't propagated to the server
already. So after you change the sites DNS you are trying to add
you will need to wait 24-48 hours before attempting to create
your Addon domain
A. There are
three fields cPanel asks for when creating an addon domain:
1.
"New Domain Name:" You will put in the
newdomain.com do not put www in the name!
2.
"Username/directory/subdomain Name:" This will
be the folder cpanel creates in your main accounts . MAKE
SURE that the name you give it doesn't already have a folder.
Example... If you want to give it the username 'chris'. You cannot
have a folder in your account named 'chris' already. If you do and
still try creating the username for the addon domain to be chris,
you will mess a lot of things up!
3.
"Password:"
fill in any password you want here
Q. Help! I added an Addon domain why did
it say Subdomain added?
A. It creates it
as a Subdomain by creating the folder within your main sites
ftp. Please ignore this! It is a fully functional domain name.
It is only called a Subdomain when in fact it is an Addon
domain
Q. Some Recommendations for
MAC users?
A. While we do support Mac users, the unique
structure of the Macintosh platform raises several compatibility
issues.
If you have not
already come across this information, it will be invaluable to
you in setting up and maintaining a website.
(These programs are all free, but do require you to download
them to your computer.)
We recommend using
any of the following programs to gain access through FTP:
-Fugu, available through Columbia University
http://www.columbia.edu/acis/software/fugu/
-Fetch, available through Fetch Softworks
http://fetchsoftworks.com/
-CyberDuck, available through Cyberduck
http://cyberduck.ch
Web Page
Development: PageWizard was programmed with the dual button
mouse in mind, making it extremely difficult to use on a Mac.
Try this instead: NVU,
available through Linspire,
http://www.nvu.com
Browser
Suggestions: Safari can not use some useful features available
through our service. To avoid these pitfalls, try these
browsers.
-Firefox, available through Mozilla,
http://www.getfirefox.com
-Opera, available through Opera Software
http://www.opera.com
